ping does not = speed, ping is how much information is lost between communications, the reason for lag in video games.

Ping is basically the amount of time it takes for information sent from your computer to get across the internet to other computers. It doesn't actually measure the amount of data received/lost in the process of being sent, although, data loss is a good possibility with higher ping than with low ping. Higher ping also means more lag during online gaming and other real-time applications that make use of the internet.
