Honestly, I can't stand the word.
I can understand having certain people with amazing potential and ability in a specific excercise or subject but never once, have I seriously considered anyone a Genius. The term is so loosely thrown around now-a-days, that not many people understand it's true meaning. Throughout my Middle School Years I was nicknamed "The Sleeping Genius" by 90% of my peers. Due to the fact that the only time I was awake was when we had a Test or were switching classes. But made Top 10 to Top 5 Countywide scores on the End of Course Exams. But looking back, I see what really happened; I was just smarter than the other students (At the time). I recieved high marks because I understood the information relatively quicker than my fellow classmates. So like many other cases, I was falsely praised as a "Genius". Going through three years of that kind of ego-heightening torture can really mess with a person socially. Like right now, I still haven't broken that "Genius" mindset that thinks I'm too good for actual work.
So, I bring up this question: Do you believe that there really are Genius' out there, and what the publicity they receive do to them? I am on the doubtful side.
