Story story story!!

*Ahem* Alright kiddies, here's a tale I heard in my travels as an on foot mail carrier...this is a tale of deceipt, a tale of tragedy...a Tale of Woe

You see, my summer job last year was delivering parcels and letters on foot for the post office to a small community in the woods. They were a small local with little communication, but they relied on the post office often and the place was hiring. Unfortunately, as one would expect for a community in the middle of a forest with no roads or landmarks, it was hard to find and I found myself wandering around completely lost as the sun began to set. As nightfall came over me, I was desperate for shelter in the unknown territory when I saw a fire being built. To my luck, I had stumbled upon a small gypsy camp of travelers looking for work. They were a generous bunch who looked over a lost traveler such as myself and shared with me some rations. As I spoke to them and passed the time, one reading a very old book caught my attention and I asked what he was reading.

"Lost in the woods, eh? Heh, happens all the time. Woods never are a good place to get lost. Anything could happen and no one outside would know. In fact, this tale in the book I'm reading is something like that. Care to listen to an old man's story?"

We both chuckled at his remark and I sat down listening intently.


In the Victorian-Era of England, a small town rested in the dreary woods outside any of the major cities. It was a rather unheard of place, out of the way from any roads, but the dedicated citizens called it home. In this town there lived a family of five:

Edmund - Father
Alice - Mother
Bruno - Eldest son
Reginald - Bruno's younger brother
Sophie - Young daughter

Like any other family, they had their share of problems. Bruno was madly in love with one of the girls in the town, one he could not stop thinking of night and day. Today he wanted to try and talk to her once again, but as he nervously stepped up to her and said hello, her brute of a boyfriend became enraged and punched Bruno down as he took her away. In pain and watched by other townsfolk, Bruno stood to his feet and sighed. He knew all too well the shy and scrawny person he was would never win the heart of his love, especially with her current date too protective of her. Feeling defeated, Bruno sadly walked to the alleys of the town alone feeling he had to accept his fate...until he was met with a stranger in the darkness.

"You seem troubled. Perhaps I can be of assistance..."

A shady figure stepped out of the shadows wearing a long dress coat and top hat. In his depression, Bruno's curiosity got the better of him as strangers in their humble town were very uncommon, so he listened to the man's proposition. "I have an elixir here. Whatever you desire in life, it shall grant you, guaranteed to chase all sorrows away. I only ask for a small handful of coins in return." Feeling that he had no other options and that he had to choose now, Bruno's thoughts of finally being able to reach his love made him buy the bottled elixir. That night at his bed side he drank every last drop and slept filled with loose hope.
