I read the trailer for this one a few weeks ago.

As Bruno woke up and looked at himself in the mirror, he was enthralled to see the man's words were true. He was now a handsome, muscular version of himself feeling a newfound courage to finally talk to the girl. His change did not go unnoticed..."You look awfully well today, son..." His father Edmund commented as he walked through the hall. He told his father of the miracle he had been granted, which the down to earth Edmund was quick to dismiss. "Nonsense! Problems are not solved overnight with magic potions! It takes hard work and honest effort!"

Unfortunately, Edmund had more to worry about than this son's sudden well-being. For years the family business had been failing, and each day they continued to sink lower into debt despite his efforts. Hard at work in the town, he took one of his usual shortcuts to a client's house when he was confronted by a stranger in the alley.

"You seem troubled. Perhaps I can be of assistance..."

The man pulled out a bottle of a strange liquid and he was soon to realize this was the very same potion his son had told him about before. Although skeptical due to his morals, Edmund figured that if the potion had granted his son's wish, it would grant his. That night he drank every last drop by his bedside and slept rather well. The next few days, Edmund began landing incredibly good deal after the next with his clients and soon before the week was done had rid himself of the debt that plagued his life for so long.

Bruno and Edmund became the talk of the town, eager to tell their stories of this man's wonderous potion to those eager to listen. Soon every father, mother, son, and daughter had begun lining the streets to buy from this dream granting peddler, for there are few who do not wish for more in this life. One by one it seemed that everyone had succumbed to their greed and began obtaining their wildest desires through impossible means, and for a while everything seemed perfect...

However, over the course of the next few days, the potions began to show their true nature. Bruno continued to grow larger and muscular until he was no longer a handsome young man, but a horribly disfigured brute. Edmund grew miserly of his newly gained fortune and lost trust in everyone around him who he thought would try to steal his hard earned money. One by one the townsfolk's deepest desires and dreams were twisted into horribly corrupted nightmares worse than they would ever had imagined. Enraged and demanding an explanation, an angry mob formed to call for the hanging of the potion peddling stranger...but he was gone. Every trace of him had vanished like a passing breeze leaving nothing of it's presence behind.

Looking for someone to put their aggression on, the mob quickly turned to Edmund and his family. Bruno used his brute strength to hold the violent townsfolk as his parents held each other tight. Distraught and filled with panic, the mother Alice paced nervously up and down the hall until she saw their young child Sophie sleeping soundly in her bed undisturbed. She realized that Sophie was the only one who had not been cursed by the potion's corruption never consuming one and told Reginald to rush her into the woods to hide her until the violence ended.

Holding his baby sister tight, Reginald began a trek with her through the foreboding woods, the trees ominously looming over them. Unseen terrors made him feel uneasy as they walked for what seemed like hours despite only being a few minutes. After a while of exploring, the two had stumbled upon a strange figure...an earth spirit named Ilere. She was a common topic of discussion amongst the children of the town who told stories of her evil to frighten each other at night, but she seemed serene and unlike what they had portrayed her as. She told Reginald she would take Sophie to a safe place to take care of her and offered the child her hand. Reginald was skeptical to hand his baby sister to a stranger who he knew nothing of besides rumors, but Sophie left his side and went to hers, saying she believed her words to be true.

Reginald watched painfully as his sister took Ilere's hand and walked deeper into the dark woods while he ran back to the village. He returned just as the mob's violence had reached it's peak and saw his elder brother get chased out of the town by his former friends and neighbors. With the streets momentarily clear of danger, Reginald took his parents across the way to an old abandoned mansion. As a child he played Hide and Seek there for hours and knew it contained many hidden passages and rooms they could disappear in. When the angry townsfolk returned, they were further enraged to see the family had escaped. With no one to blame but themselves, they began to turn onto one another and fights began to broke out. At that point the mob would have escalated it's aggression to a full scale riot had the mayor not stepped in at the last moment.

"Citizens! This is not the way to act in our darkest hour! Fighting ourselves shall not solve our dilemma, but further destroy our lives! The time for violence has passed...we shall have our retribution at another time, but we must do the forbidden...we only have one hope, and that's to call upon the Spirit of Slumber."

The Spirit of Slumber was the name of a mysterious man who was well versed in the ways of sorcery and magic. As the townsfolk formed in the town square in ritual, he came over them and heard their pleas for help. He agreed to help them with the curse that was plauging them...

...but it came at a terrible price, for the town was empty the next day and no one was seen again...

Rumors were that the young daughter Sophie had tried to return to the town in vain attempts to find anyone left. Many times she returned, many times she was met with heartbreak. After several tries to locate people, she tried one last time on All Hollow's Eve, where, to her surprise, everyone was there...but something was seriously wrong. Everyone walked around, yes, but they seemed to be in trances. None of them spoke to or acknowledged one another, and they ignored her attempts to communicate. Trying to get one's attention, she was met with horror as she touched a fellow's body...for her hand to phase through.

You see, to save the townsfolk from the curse that was turning them into their own personal Hells, he put their souls in a form of Purgatory, forever cursed to walk the land unseen by all on all days except All Hallow's Eve, where their restless souls are visible. More rumors speculate that Sophie studied witchcraft in an attempt to save them and succeeded, but no such official documentations of the events exist, nor would one put down such antics in paper and be told they were amongst the sane.
